Federal decision on scaled back Tasmania wind project delayed for fifth time

Delayed Decision on Tasmania Wind Project

The St Patricks Plains wind project in Tasmania has faced its fifth delay in awaiting a decision under the federal Environmental Protection and Biodiversity Conservation (EPBC) Act.

The project, initially designed for 67 turbines, has been scaled back to 47 turbines with a capacity of 291 megawatts (MW). The decision deadline has been pushed to November 28.

A government spokesperson from the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water stated that the delays were requested by the project developer, Ark Energy.

Ark Energy acquired the project in 2022, adding to the already lengthy delays under the EPBC Act, which began in 2019 when the project was still owned by Epuron.

No comment has been received from Ark Energy regarding the delays.

The project is proposed for a site in Tasmania's Central Highlands, south-east of Milena and 25km north of Bothwell.

Author's summary: Tasmania wind project faces fifth delay.
