Data center power demand is heating up; here’s where Virginia’s gubernatorial candidates on the issue

Data Center Power Demand in Virginia

Data center power demand is increasing, with one hyper-scale data center requiring as much power as 2 million homes. Virginia currently has approximately 3.6 million homes.

A recent tour of a new hyper-scale power solution manufacturing facility in Henrico County highlights the significant power demands of data centers in the near future.

Both of Virginia's gubernatorial candidates recognize the link between the Commonwealth's economic future and data center demand, but they have differing ideas on how to power it.

"This is the world's first and most compact and dense power distribution unit,"

said Dennis Strieter, co-founder of Hyper Solutions, during a tour of the company's new expansion! in Henrico County. The unit delivers 1.3 million watts, equivalent to the power required by 2,000 homes, to computer servers.

Author's summary: Virginia's data center power demand is rising.
