Construction crews have started placing concrete on the new westbound bridge structure as part of the $171-million replacement project on Okaloosa Island.
The concrete will undergo a seven-day "wet cure" hydration process to reach maximum strength and durability. This process involves lightly spraying water over the surface and covering it with a wet, saturated fabric to keep it consistently moist.
The current bridge, which opened in 1966, will be replaced by the new structures.
