How to Listen When Nature Speaks — Weave News

Listening to Nature's Voice

A new toolkit from Talking Rivers encourages organizations to reevaluate their connection with the natural world through language, governance, and the simple act of listening.

An old Haudenosaunee proverb states:

“the Creator gave us two eyes, two ears, two nostrils, but only one mouth, so we would look, listen, and breathe twice as much as we speak.”

Observing the world around us reveals the fragmentation of ecosystems and the relentless exploitation of resources. Instead of the songs of birds, the air is filled with the sounds of traffic and aircraft. The scent of pine is often replaced with the smell of wildfire smoke.

Nature continuously sends us signals, yet we have learned to ignore them, drowning out its warnings with our own noise.
