Jay Lycurgo notes,
“It’s a vital topic”, as he discusses his role in the film Steve.
Some actors are born for certain roles, and Jay Lycurgo is one such example, bringing to life the character of Shy in Tim Mielants' new film Steve, adapted from Max Porter's novella Shy.
Shy is a
furious, fragile teenagerstruggling between self-destruction and salvation in a 1990s residential school for boys.
Steve follows Shy's journey over a single day as he tries to break free from inner chaos, while his teachers, including a
stoic yet sensitive head teacherplayed by Cillian Murphy, attempt to reach him.
The film features a talented cast, including Emily Watson, Tracey Ullman, and Simbiatu Ajikawo (Lil Simz), with Jay's performance at its core, described as
raw, ecstatic, and unguarded.
Author's summary: Jay Lycurgo shines in Steve.
