Minister of Trade and Industry Parks Tau has instructed the National Lotteries Commission (NLC) to probe "fresh allegations" of political connections linked to Sizekhaya Holdings, the winner of the fourth lottery licence.
This investigation follows an unsuccessful bid by Ithuba Lottery, which has taken Minister Tau to court. The Sizekhaya consortium has been reported to have links to Paul Mashatile, according to Ithuba Lottery.
Minister Tau says this is "not an admission of a flawed process", but rather a demonstration of his commitment to the ongoing integrity of the licence.
Minister Tau had announced in May that the Sizekhaya consortium was the winning bidder to operate the national lotteries for the next eight years.
