The Arnold Arboretum is a unique institution, described by Rodney Eason, director of horticulture and landscape, as a place where
“Every day is awesome”.
Purchased by Harvard in 1872, the land was converted into a park by Frederick Law Olmsted, the father of American landscape architecture, and Charles Sprague Sargent, the founding director of the Arboretum.
Today, the Arboretum serves as a
“living museum”, a research institution, and one of the nine public parks that form Boston’s Emerald Necklace.
