Laois County Council has activated its roads treatment programme for the upcoming winter season, which will run from mid-October to the end of April.
The council will treat approximately 478 kilometres of main roads, focusing on busier routes, while leaving around 1,800 kilometres of roads untreated due to limited resources.
In Portlaoise, extra salt bins will be provided in housing estates following difficulties experienced during last January's heavy snow.
The council says it is "not responsible for any accidents that may occur as a result of poor driving conditions"
