Courtenay-Alberni member of Parliament, Gord Johns, received the Allyship Award from the Canadian Association of People Who Use Drugs (CAPSA) this week.
The award recognizes Johns’ national leadership in advocating for substance use health reform. As the NDP’s critic for Mental Health and Addictions, Johns has been an outspoken voice in Parliament, advocating for ending the stigma around substance use and having it treated as a health care issue, not a criminal one.
“This award is not about me—it’s about the people and communities who continue to push for a new way forward in how we understand and respond to substance use health in Canada,”
said Johns.
