Watervliet Man Found Guilty in Dirt Bike Crash

Austin Breyette, a Watervliet man, has been convicted on all charges related to a dirt bike crash that seriously injured UAlbany student Alexa Kropf in May 2024.

The jury delivered a verdict after less than two hours of deliberation, finding Breyette guilty of second-degree assault, leaving the scene of an accident, and two counts of tampering with physical evidence.

Kropf suffered life-altering injuries, requiring multiple surgeries, after being hit by Breyette's dirt bike on Hudson Avenue.

Defense attorney Jasper Mills argued that Kropf was intoxicated and walked into the street with her back to traffic, and Breyette did not have time to react.

The trial lasted nearly two weeks, with the jury beginning deliberations at around 1:45 p.m. and requesting some testimony be read back before delivering the verdict at around 3:30 p.m.

Author's summary: A Watervliet man is guilty on all charges.
