Ottumwa Animal Shelter Takes in 45 Cats from Hoarder Home

The Heartland Humane Society has taken in 45 cats seized from a home in Ottumwa, Iowa, after officers removed them due to unsafe and unsanitary conditions.

A 77-year-old woman, Suzette Kay Stocker, faces 43 counts of animal cruelty. The cats were taken in by the shelter two weeks ago, with four of them being pregnant. Unfortunately, all of the litters born so far have died, likely due to the hazardous health conditions the mothers had been living in.

According to Humane Society Assistant Manager Courtney Monohon, almost all of the rescued cats are petrified of the outside world.
