Senior living operators are building new models to meet the needs of baby boomers. If they don't succeed, boomers may create their own models.
Last weekend, a Wall Street Journal article highlighted how aging boomers are creating their own housing destinies. Due to affordability limitations, some boomers in their 60s and 70s are pooling resources to create their own senior housing.
This concept is not new, as senior cohousing has been considered by many older Americans for decades. The TV show "The Golden Girls" depicted older women living together in the 1980s.
Boomers may create their own senior housing models if operators don't meet their needs.
