Lawmakers in Atlanta are facing conflicting calls to loosen or tighten regulation of hemp and marijuana.
Jennifer Conforti's 15-year-old daughter, Abby, was prescribed powerful drugs to manage her profound autism. However, the drugs were ineffective, and Conforti decided to source marijuana and create a concentrate to help her daughter.
Conforti testified that patients need a product with higher levels of THC and in more forms than oil, such as vape products or the flower from the plant itself.
A decade ago, lawmakers passed a medical cannabis law allowing patients on a state registry to obtain low-THC oil, which helped Conforti's daughter, but she believes more is needed.
