Lawmakers at the Georgia Capitol are considering changes to the regulation of marijuana and hemp products, with conflicting calls to both loosen and tighten existing laws.
Last month, they heard from both sides of the issue, including from parents like Jennifer Conforti, whose 15-year-old daughter Abby has profound autism.
Abby was taking benzodiazepines to help with her reactions, such as biting the skin off her arm, but the drugs were not helping, Conforti said.
Conforti decided to break the law and source marijuana to help her daughter, as the existing medical cannabis law, which allows patients on a state registry to obtain low-THC oil, was not sufficient.
This law was passed by lawmakers a decade ago.
