Town willing to sell Centennial Pool to Bluewater public school board

Centennial Pool Sale

The Bluewater District School Board is interested in purchasing the Town-owned Centennial Pool in Port Elgin, with potential plans to convert it into classroom space.

Saugeen Shores Council has directed staff to prepare a purchase and sale agreement with the school board for the aging pool, located at Saugeen District Senior School.

The decision follows an in-camera discussion about disposing of the pool and its surrounding land at the October 27 council meeting.

Once the sale is complete, the pool will become redundant with the upcoming opening of the $49.9 million Pryde Aquatic and Wellness Centre at The Plex in mid-December.

No details of the pending agreement have been released by the Town.

The council-approved motion instructs staff to sign documents with the school board for the purchase and sale of the facility.

Author's summary: Centennial Pool may be sold to the school board.
