The Sopranos has a nearly perfect opening title sequence, featuring Tony Soprano driving through New Jersey, accompanied by the song "Woke Up This Morning" by Alabama 3.
However, creator David Chase initially wanted a different song, one that would have explicitly laid out the show's themes, but ultimately would have been a poor choice.
The song was by an undisputed master of popular music, Elvis Costello.
Luckily, Chase decided against it, opting for the more subtle and soulful "Woke Up This Morning", which has become an iconic part of the show.
The Sopranos' opening theme song was almost a disaster.
