Hong Kong's Scameter App Upgrade
Hong Kong police are expanding the functions of the Scameter app to tackle social media scams, particularly online employment and investment scams, which are on the rise.

According to Keith Yip Wan-lung, deputy police commissioner for operations, scammers are changing tactics to capitalize on the latest trends and events, favoring social media platforms to reach victims.
- Police received 32,142 scam reports in the first nine months of 2025, a 0.6% increase.
The Scameter app upgrade includes AI tools to detect suspicious social media content, aiming to combat the surge in online scams.
