Animal Crossing: New Horizons Update and Switch 2 Edition
A major free update for Animal Crossing: New Horizons is coming in January, along with a paid Switch 2 Edition upgrade.
Nintendo announced a free update for all versions of Animal Crossing: New Horizons, as well as a $4.99 Switch 2 Edition upgrade, which will add features like mouse controls and 12-player multiplayer.
The update and Switch 2 Edition will be available on January 15, 2026, along with a $64.99 digital and physical Switch 2 version.
Free Update Features
- A new building, the Resort Hotel, tied to Kapp’n’s family
- A new reset option
- Shared Slumber Islands for online multiplayer
- New collaborations with extra villagers
The Resort Hotel will feature new tasks, clothes, and furniture, and players can earn tickets by decorating rooms for guests to spend on new cosmetics.
The Slumber Island will allow players to have up to three extra islands online, which can be worked on with other players.
