Minister for Home Affairs, Security and Employment Byron Camilleri revealed that 2,752 people were denied Maltese citizenship via naturalisation in the past five years.
Of these, 756 were dependents, including children or family members of primary applicants.
PN MP Graziella Attard Previ sought transparency on citizenship refusals, tabling the question that led to the Minister's revelation.
The origins and residency durations of the denied applicants remain unknown, as this information was not disclosed by the Minister.
Author's summary: Over 2,700 citizenship applications were denied in Malta.
