Rio Tinto-backed Tomago Aluminium has started consulting employees and unions on the future of its smelter operations, seeking a commercially viable long-term energy solution.
Located north of Newcastle, the smelter employs over 1000 full-time staff and 200 contractors from the Hunter Valley and Central Coast. As stated on Tomago's website:
