BMA Response to Government's Pay Rise Proposal

The British Medical Association (BMA) has criticized the Government's suggested pay rise for doctors in 2026 as "indefensible".

It is frankly indefensible that yet another Government is once again suggesting real-terms pay cut for doctors – an increase of less than 50p per hour for many newly-qualified doctors.

Dr Tom Dolphin, BMA council chair, expressed concerns that this proposal would lead to a further devaluation of the medical profession, which has already experienced over a decade of pay erosion and increasing workloads.

Author's summary: BMA criticizes Government's pay rise proposal as indefensible.
