Telcos worldwide are experiencing cyberbreaches, and vendors are also being targeted.

Ribbon Communications, a Plano, Texas-based optical and IP networking system developer, recently fell victim to a cybersecurity incident.

Unauthorized persons, reportedly associated with a nation-state actor, believed to be a reference to China, hacked the vendor.

The hackers remained in Ribbon's IT systems for almost a year. The incident was disclosed in the company's 10-Q filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) under the sub-heading "Cybersecurity Incident Disclosure" on page 57.

The telecom sector's focus on cybersecurity often centers on network operators and customer data, but tech suppliers like Ribbon are also being targeted by bad actors.
