Jannik Sinner has moved a step closer to regaining the world number one ranking with a victory over Ben Shelton in the Paris Masters quarter-finals.
Following Carlos Alcaraz's early loss to Cameron Norrie, Sinner can overtake him by winning the tournament. Despite not being at his freshest physically, the Italian is a clear favourite.
Sinner initially looked stiff in the match against Shelton but went on to win 6-3 6-3, marking his seventh consecutive win over the American.
I'm very happy. It was a very, very tough match. You know this before the match against Ben, at times you don't have a lot of control because of his incredible serving, but today I felt like I was returning very well. Also from the back of the court I played very solid and also very aggressive.
