Could Melatonin Be Silently Harming Your Heart?

Melatonin's Potential Harm to the Heart

Scientists have discovered a surprising link between long-term melatonin use and heart failure in patients with chronic insomnia.

A recent study presented at the American Heart Association's Scientific Sessions 2025 found that long-term melatonin use (for a year or more) in over 130,000 adults with insomnia was associated with a nearly doubled risk of developing heart failure, more than triple the risk of hospitalization for heart failure, and nearly twice the risk of death over five years.

Marketed as nature's sleep switch, melatonin has become a nightly habit for millions.

Author's summary: Melatonin may harm the heart in insomnia patients.
