VA Tech Glitch Halts GI Bill Payments
Up to 75,000 GI Bill recipients have been left without payments for school and housing due to an IT glitch at the Department of Veterans Affairs.
Advocates are calling on the VA to turn the GI Bill hotline back on, two months after the issue began. The affected recipients are spouses or children of veterans who have died, are missing, or have a permanent and total service-connected disability, grouped under the VA's Chapter 35.
- Up to 75,000 claims may be unpaid, according to Ashlynne Haycock-Lohmann, director of Government and Legislative Affairs for the Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors.
The VA officials blame the delay largely on congressional Democrats, held responsible for the government shutdown that began in October.
