Lumberton City Council members Melissa Robinson, John Carroll, John Cantey, and Owen Thomas were reelected on Tuesday, each winning by a wide margin as the only names on the ballot.
In Precinct 5, John Cantey won with 202 votes, more than 88%, despite two write-in campaigns by Keith Copeland and Darryl Genus, which combined for 27 votes.
“First and foremost, I’d like to thank God, all of our church families, civic groups and especially the residents of Precinct 5 for entrusting me to a sixth term as their representative,”
Cantey, the senior member of the council, has served since 2005 and won a sixth term. His victory is seen as an indicator of the residents' choice for representation.
