Lawsuit Against Nassau Police
A $60M lawsuit has been filed against the Nassau police for alleged wrongful arrest.
Maria Campanelli, 27, suffered a traumatic brain injury, bruising, and emotional distress after being "manhandled" by officers at a legislative meeting on August 5, 2024.
Police officers assaulted and arrested the wrong suspect while responding to a report of an unruly person at a Nassau County legislature hearing on the Mask Transparency Act.
The lawsuit was filed in federal court in Central Islip, seeking $60 million in damages.
