With approximately 76% of countywide votes counted, the Nassau County Legislature is expected to stay under Republican control. The forecast shows a composition of 11 Republicans and 8 Democrats.
Before the recent election, the Legislature had an 11-7 Republican majority. One seat, District 15, is vacant after John Ferretti resigned to become Hempstead town supervisor. Previously, the split was 12-7 in favor of Republicans.
In Tuesday’s election, Democrats won one seat by flipping District 14, slightly reducing the Republican margin.
The Nassau County Legislature consists of 19 legislators, each representing one of the county’s 19 districts.
