First Alert Weather: Tracking Another Round of Rain and Wind Friday

After a calm Thursday, another fast-moving storm system is expected to arrive Friday. Before that, there’s a chance to catch a glimpse of the Northern Lights Thursday night. Although the aurora is difficult to predict, a solar storm might make it visible through partly clear skies, particularly around midnight.

Friday will begin with limited sunshine and dry conditions. Showers are expected to return by early to mid-afternoon as a cold front moves through. Winds could gust up to 30 mph ahead of the front. Cooler air will follow, leading to a few lake-effect rain showers Friday night.

Saturday looks to be the better day of the weekend, although not completely dry. Aside from a few passing lake-effect showers, there should be plenty of dry periods, with temperatures in the 40s.

By Sunday, another storm system will arrive, bringing periodic rain showers. Temperatures could briefly climb into the 50s before dropping quickly in the evening as a stronger cold front pushes in. Rain might mix with wet snow late Sunday night into early Monday.

The start of next week will bring more winter-like weather, with highs in the 30s, brisk winds, and occasional lake-effect snow showers.

“A solar storm may provide the opportunity to see the Northern Lights Thursday night, despite partly cloudy skies.”
