Former Gator Will Richard Scores 30 in First NBA Start

The Golden State Warriors, missing superstar Stephen Curry, saw rookie Will Richard deliver an impressive performance in a narrow 121-116 loss to the Sacramento Kings at the Golden 1 Center in Sacramento on Wednesday night.

Will Richard’s Breakout Game

Starting for the Warriors for the first time in his career, Richard made a strong impact. He scored 30 points, shooting 10-for-15 (66.7%) overall and 5-for-8 (62.5%) from three-point range. In addition to scoring, he contributed seven rebounds, three assists, and one turnover over 35 minutes on the court.

“Will was amazing,” Warriors coach Steve Kerr said. “From the beginning of camp, he’s shown he’s an NBA player and the experience, the poise. He doesn’t turn it over. He can handle the ball under pressure. This guy’s a hell of a player.”

Draft and College Background

The Warriors acquired Richard after trading up with the Memphis Grizzlies to secure his draft rights in the second round of the 2025 NBA Draft. The trade involved sending the 59th pick and a conditional future second-round pick to the Grizzlies.

Richard played three years with the Florida Gators and was the first transfer commit under coach Todd Golden, coming from Belmont.

Will Richard’s strong debut highlights his readiness to contribute at the NBA level even in the absence of key team stars.
