Marsy’s Law for Wisconsin, the Wisconsin Broadcasters Association, and the Wisconsin Newspaper Association are teaming up to host a webinar focused on ethical media reporting concerning crime victims.
The session will be moderated by Nela Kalpic, State Director for Marsy’s Law Wisconsin.
The webinar will cover recommendations from the National Center for Victims of Crime (NCVC) guide for reporters. It will address best practices for engaging with victims, including protecting survivors from unwanted attention and ethically sharing their stories to benefit both the reporter and survivor.
Additionally, the discussion will link these guidelines to Wisconsin’s Marsy’s Law, a constitutional amendment securing crime victims’ rights such as privacy, notice, and participation in the justice process.
“The webinar will focus on how to protect survivors from unwanted attention and leverage their stories to yield positive results for both the reporter and the survivor.”
