Golden State started a young and inexperienced lineup in their game against the Sacramento Kings, missing three key players: Stephen Curry, Draymond Green, and Jimmy Butler.
Stephen Curry did not join the team’s 90-minute bus ride to Sacramento on Tuesday night. By game time on Wednesday, both Draymond Green and Jimmy Butler were also ruled out. Coach Steve Kerr chose to start rookie guard Will Richard, second-year center Quentin Post, and shooting guard Moses Moody, alongside Brandin Podziemski and Jonathan Kuminga.
This lineup was the least experienced Golden State has fielded since April 26, 2012, when Klay Thompson started alongside Chris Wright, Jeremy Tyler, Mickell Gladness, and Charles Jenkins.
“Obviously it’s more difficult when you’re missing your stars, but it’s a great opportunity for a lot of guys,” Kerr said before the game.
“I’m looking to see energy, pace. Throwing the ball ahead, playing aggressively on offense. Defensively, containing penetration and keeping the easy stuff away, just trying to put a good 48 minutes together. I’m excited.”
The challenge was somewhat eased by the Kings dealing with their own injury issues, which affected their roster as well.
Author's summary: The Warriors faced the Kings with their least experienced lineup in over a decade, as Coach Kerr embraced the chance for young players to step up amid multiple injuries to star players.
