Celebrity chef talks about his new book that he will be signing at Waterstones in Morpeth

Rick Stein Talks About His New Christmas Book

Renowned television chef and author Rick Stein will visit Waterstones in Morpeth on Thursday, November 13, to sign copies of his latest work, Rick Stein’s Christmas. Ahead of his appearance, Caroline Dominey spoke with him about the book and what the holiday means to him personally.

How the Book Came About

“It came about simply because my wife Sarah has said for years, ‘I think you should do a Christmas book.’ She’s Australian and one of the things she really loves about living in the UK is Christmas.”

Stein explained that the idea had been long in the making and that his wife’s affection for the season inspired him to finally create a collection celebrating the festive traditions of Britain. Once he began revisiting his memories and recipes, the project flowed naturally.

“I think we all love Christmas in our hearts. It matters to us on this slightly rainy island, and it was a joy to do.”

What Makes Christmas Special

“First and foremost is the Christmas fare – turkey, glazed ham, and all the special accompaniments like chutneys, jams, and mulled wines.”

Beyond food, the chef highlighted his passion for the songs and traditions that bring people together during the holidays.

“I’ve always loved Christmas songs, carols, and carol services. There’s even a whole section in the book about Christmas No.1s!”

For Stein, Christmas is a season filled with shared joy, nostalgia, and culinary indulgence – the essence of togetherness that he aims to capture in his new book.

Author’s Summary

Rick Stein’s Christmas book blends recipes, memories, and traditions, showing his fondness for festive food, music, and the warm, collective spirit of the season.
