Oscar-winning actress Jennifer Lawrence spoke with Q's Tom Power about her comeback to the screen, portraying a young mother grappling with mental health challenges.
Martin Scorsese, after reading Ariana Harwicz’s novel Die, My Love in his book club, sent a copy to Lawrence, envisioning her as the lead character. Lawrence now stars alongside Robert Pattinson in the film adaptation, directed by Lynne Ramsay.
The story centers on a young mother dealing with the emotional turmoil following the birth of her first child. As a new mother herself, Lawrence felt this role was a fitting choice for her return to acting after a hiatus from Hollywood.
She shared with Tom Power how she prepared mentally for this intense role and discussed distancing herself from her teenage fame, which she felt overshadowed her work as an actress. Lawrence also explained why she stepped away from the spotlight when she began to feel more like a celebrity than a performer.
